About Us

In the Saint Louis Women’s Chorale, singers of diverse backgrounds come together in community to share their love of singing and the restorative power of music. Since 1995, the auditioned, 35-voice community chorus has kept a tradition of musical excellence and commitment to innovation and creativity, commissioning distinctive arrangements and works that often feature women composers and poets. While keeping classical music at its core, the Chorale joins innovation with tradition by performing many other types of music—jazz, folk, broadway, blues, gospel—and collaborating with professional dancers, painters, poets, and instrumentalists to delight audiences with fresh, memorable experiences. As the Ensemble-in-Residence at Maryville University, the Chorale introduces younger women to mentoring, leadership, and performing opportunities.  And with a commitment to diversity and inclusion, the St. Louis Women’s Chorale affirms the worth and dignity of all people and strives to harness the power of music and exceptional performances to enrich and transform lives.

Our Mission

To build a caring community of women whose excellent, innovative and inspiring choral performances help create a more just and resilient community.

Our Vision

A world where all people experience the transformative power of music.

Principal Artist Awards

Central to the mission of the Chorale is the desire to support women who are pursuing careers in music.  We achieve our goals, in part, by offering paid positions in the form of Principal Artist Awards.  Our Principal Artists have opportunities to perform solos with the Chorale and function as our Section Leaders.

Reviews:

The Saint Louis Women’s Chorale is considered “....a highly polished vocal ensemble with impeccable intonation, diction, and balance. The voices are clear and warm, and their tone and presentation are a delight to the audience.”

- Dr. Robert Hart Baker, former Conductor, St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra

"What a gift it was to be in St. Louis this past weekend for a performance of my Suffrage Cantata. The St. Louis Women’s Chorale collaborated artfully with choirs from Webster University, and Cor Jesu High School to create an unforgettable night of beautiful music and storytelling. The narrator and soloist were wonderful and I loved Leanne Latuda’s fearless conducting of a work that requires the conductor to navigate so many moving parts. Thank you for the invitation. I felt so warmly embraced by the audience during my pre-concert talk about the work!"

-Dr. Andrea Ramsey, composer of Suffrage Cantata
