Untamed opens Season 32 with a powerful journey from elemental beginnings to fierce self-definition. Through music shaped by earth, air, fire, water, light, myth, and movement, the Saint Louis Women’s Chorale explores what it means to be formed by the world around us, and then claim the power to define ourselves. At the heart of the program is the World Premiere of La Ciguapa: Songs of an Island by St. Louis–based Dominican composer Darwin Aquino. Rooted in Caribbean folklore, La Ciguapa is a mysterious woman who cannot be captured or controlled, a vivid symbol of autonomy, freedom, and self-possession. The program also features Sarah Quartel’s She Sang the Stars, inspired by the Finnish epic Kalevala, where mythic women sing, create, endure, and transform. With striking modern repertoire, evocative visual design, and the Chorale’s signature expressive sound, Untamed invites you into a concert experience that is bold, atmospheric, and deeply human.
